Major Fire Breaks Out In Mumbai’s Bandra Slums, Details Here

Mumbai: The pedestrian foot over bridge of one of the busiest Bandra stations of Mumbai, was suddenly engulfed in flames at the rush hour as major fire broke out in shanties, at Bandra east. So far the reports claim 5 people being injured including a fireman.

 

Nearly, 16 fire brigades and 17 water tankers reached the spot to douse off the fire that caught up at 3:45pm in the Behrampada slum. The sky could be seen filled up with smoke at Bandra.

 

A part of sky-walk near the eastern exit of the large station collapsed after it was trapped in fire.

 

As per the sources, the fire erupted after gas cylinders exploded during a huge demolition drive in the slum this afternoon.

Officials said, BMC had started a three-day demolition drive to clear the area of encroachment.

However, the western railways was left unaffected. Whereas, the Harbour line’s  local train services from CSMT to Bandra and Andheri, and Vashi to Andheri were reportedly put on halt at 04.25pm. This was because the slum dwellers threw their belongings on the railway tracks. Soon the services were resumed at 4.40pm.

 

No serious casualties have been reported so far but nearly lakhs of rupees was set on blaze. The condition of both seems to be stable.

The two nearby hospitals, Bandra Bhabha and VN Desai Hospital, are too put on alert in order to remain prepared for the casualties.

The Latest update states that the fire is under control and the cooling process is underway as per the news agency ANI.
