We all think that the Bollywood stars lead a glamorous and happy life, but there is a dark side of Bollywood which is hidden behind the camera. The life of Bollywood stars which seems so perfect on-screen is not perfect and easy in their real life. There is always a ‘struggle story’ behind every Bollywood star’s success. Some B-town stars overcome this struggle and taste success while others fail to fight with the obstacles and fail to achieve success in their lives. But this dark side of Bollywood is not being shown on screen.
Today I am going to discuss about that ‘dark side’ of the Bollywood which not everyone is aware of. Here are 6 B-town celebs who were Bankrupt at the time of their death-
1. A. K. Hangal
He was one of the most well-known faces of Indian cinema with 225 films under his belt. However, his fame did not last long. In the December of his life, he went bankrupt and couldn’t even pay his medical bills!
2. Parveen Babi
The typical sex symbol of the 1970s and 80s, Parveen had the world at her feet. She was the first actress to grace the cover of Time magazine. She had a body of work most people would die for. However, the last stages of her life were not kind to her. She developed Paranoid Schizophrenia and accused everybody starting from Amitabh Bachchan to Clinton of trying to murder her. She went bankrupt and couldn’t even bear her medical bills! She died because of loneliness.
3. Bharat Bhushan
He was one of the biggest superstars of the 50s and the 60s but at the last stages of his life, he lost most of his wealth. Even though he once had numerous flats and bungalows in Mumbai, he was forced to live in a chawl.
4. Raj Kapoor
Raj Kapoor’s fortunes took a turn for the worst soon after his most ambitious project till date, ‘Mera Naam Joker’ which flopped miserably at the box office. He realised that he and his RK Studio had gone bankrupt.
5. Meena Kumari
Meena Kumari started working in the Bollywood industry at the age of four and became the Indian Cinema’s tragedy queen. After a failed relationship with Dharmendra and a broken marriage led her on a downward spiral. She became an alcoholic and eventually suffered from liver cirrhosis. At the last stage of her life, she had no one but herself. She went bankrupt and could not even pay her hospital bills.
6. Achala Sachdev
She played the role of Kajol’s Grandmother in the movie ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. She started working in the industry in the year 1938. In the last few years of her life, she was abandoned by her industry mates and family. In 2011, she was diagnosed with multiple embolisms in her brain. This led to paralysis and loss of vision. She could not even bear her own medical bills.
That is why, it is said that life is uncertain to everyone, even to the once upon a time biggies of Bollywood. There are so many ups and downs in everyone’s life and life is all about how you fight and overcome your problems.
