A video shared on social media is boiling every Indian’s blood and getting viral on social platform since last few days. The video begins with a father carrying his dead daughter’s body talking angrily to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, narrating a father’s plight to him. The man with eyes filled with rage over his daughter’s death in the absence of proper medical facility can make anyone weep. The man claims to be from Sitamarhi district of Bihar where BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is in power in alliance with JD(U) (Janata Dal United).
The death of the girl as claimed by the man is due to snake bite and he blames the hospital’s careless behaviour for his daughter’s death. “Modi ji meri baat dhyaan se suniye. Main Sitamarhi jilha se bol raha hu, Chainpur mein meri beti ko saanp kaant lia tha, Majorganj mein main lekar gaya hu hospital mein. Yahaan main surakshit lekar gaya tha, koi saadhan, prasadhan, koi gaadi nai dia hai,” (Modi ji, hear me out. I’m from Sitamarhi district, my daughter was bitten by a snake. I took her to the Majorganj town’s hospital. I took her safely, no vehicle, no facility was provided to me,) speaks the man with rage in the video.

He further adds that no ambulance was provided by the hospital to the deceased to move her to Sitamarhi district hospital. “Main usko (hospital administration) bola ambulance do isko (his daughter) Sitamarhi le jane ke liye toh koi mujhe gaadi nahin dia hai, ambulance nahin dia hai,” (I asked the hospital administration to provide me with an ambulance but no ambulance was provided to me) added the distressed father in the video. The plight of the man can make one wonder if we still are in 2018 where PM Modi is showing the dream of Bullet Train but the fundamental facilities to the needy are kilometers away from them. The tax after tax, is just adding to the government’s treasure but the basic facilities to the poor and needy seem to be available only in the speeches of the politicians.
At one place where the BJP government is condemning opposition’s attempt to oppose the price hike, BJP seem to be failing to address the ground zero grievances of the people. This video is another example that leaving aside cities, villages are still too far from basic and fundamental facilities for the poor. The man in the video also recalls BJP’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign which he calls of no use if such daughters die such tragic deaths. The man narrates how he had to carry her dead daughter in his arms as the hospital administration refused to provide him with any vehicle to carry his daughter back home.
A similar incident, in August 2016, which had brought the Odisha state administration under questioning when a man, Dana Manjhi, had to carry his dead wife, Amangadei, on his shoulder around 10km as hospital allegedly refused to provide him with any ambulance service. We have become a nuclear power country, an IT super power but what we haven’t achieved is being human friendly, citizen friendly. Hope the current government listens to such needy people’s grievances and come forward with strong protocols for hospitals to provide ambulance services and other medical facility to such needy and poor people.
