Wipro gets threatening emails for biological attacks in their campuses

Mumbai: One of the renowned IT leaders, Wipro, got a shocking email threatening to attack it’s campuses with biological attack using drones. A biological attack is one which contains disease causing agents like Pathogens or poisonous substance produced by a living organism like biotoxins and are hazardous to human beings, plants, animals and even other living beings.




Wipro received the first threatening email for biological attack from an email ID read as ramesh2@protonmail.com in their Sarjapur office on May 5. The email threatend a biological attack in Wipro campuses if they don’t receive INR 500 Crore in the form of Bitcoins before May 25. The second threatening email was received from the same ID before around 72 hours from their given deadline asking for INR 500 Crore in the form of Bitcoins, failing which they will have biological attack in their campuses using drones.

 

Taking into consideration the seriousness of the email’s content, Police had registered a case against the unknown culprits under section 66F of the IT Act (Cyber Terrorism) and the investigation was being done by Cyber Crime Police. The case was subsequently transferred to Bellandur police station. The Cyber Crime wing of CID (Criminal Investigation Department) is further investigating the case and hope the perpetrators will be soon behind the bars. Thankfully, there wasn’t any attack as threatened in the threatening emails.




As per a report by Times of India, when CID approached MHA to verify the Switzerland angle, it seemed to the investigators that the email possibly have come from a European country. The Local Police has also been asked to question the possible suspects from the internal staff members.

 

Wipro made its official statement, “Wipro confirms that it has received a second threatening email from an unidentified source. Wipro has reinforced security measures at all it’s office locations.”

It further added, “There is no impact on the company’s operations. We have no further comments as the investigation is ongoing”.
