Mumbai: Have you heard that song, “This happens only in India!” Of course we all have and we even have seen enough to say that the song is absolutely true. As the general elections are nearing, all the political parties are seen perfectly exercising all their democratic rights creating havoc in the parliament. A card beautifully played by the opposition parties including Congress, has been to build a stronger and more aggressive stand against the ruling party. By targeting just the correct public issues, during the most important season of our dear Prime ministers academic year.

The protests during the budget session this year marked as one of the least productive ones since 2000, creating a parliamentary deadlock. Lashing out on Friday, PM Modi accused the opposition, congress in particular for the practice of divisive politics.

Addressing to the BJP members, he then declared a fast on 12th of April 2018 as a step against the logjam situation in the parliament. Yesterday, during his “satyagraha to swacchagraha” speech, Modi aiming at the opposition said, “Hum Jan man ko jodne ki koshish kar rahe hain…woh jan jan ko todne ki koshish kar rahe hai…(We are trying to unite each and everyone, they (opposition) is trying to divide each and everyone)”

Some sources also inform that all the BJP MP’s will be observing fast on the 12th April along with the prime minister. It is also believed that Amit Shah, in Hubli, Karnataka will also be holding a dharna on the same day. Sources have informed that even while fasting, the PM will follow his daily routine at work.

While there were protests all over the news against the government for the dilution of the SC/ST Act a few days ago. Now it is said that the PM has directed all the BJP MP’s to organize events for the birth anniversary of the honorable late Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 14th April 2018. And it is also said that on the 11th of April, that is today, marked as the birth anniversary of late social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule is to be observed as “Samta Divas” or equality day by Bharatiya Janata Party.

BJP is seen emphasizing a lot on their views for Dalit people and the work done by the party for them as Ambedkar’s legacy. So much that the opposition has also accused them of actually being anti-dalit.

A FAST OR FARCE?
On Tuesday, reacting to PM’s fasting announcement, Congress called it “farce” and targeting the issues at hand, suggested that the PM should instead apologize to the youth, the dalit and other sections of the society who were disappointed by his government.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, communications in-charge of congress said that the central government led by the BJP should be blamed for the parliament washout, despite having absolute majority in the lok sabha.

Adding to this, he told the reporters, “This is a Farce of a fast by the Modi government. The BJP should apologize to the nation and hold a fast for disrupting parliament for over 250 hours. The lok sabha where the BJP has the majority functioned for only one per cent of it’s time and rajya sabha for six per cent of it’s time,”

The congress spokesperson holding the government accountable for the CBSE paper leak and the supposed dilution of the SC/ST Act (Prevention of the atrocities), said, “The PM should hold a fast to apologize to the country for the 13 banking scams, where people like Chota Modi that is Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi ran away with over 60,000 crore rupees,”

The statements received in reaction from the opposition are some of the strongest points that can make the fasting show of BJP government go flop. Even Mr. Kejriwal who has been avoiding any action-reaction game with the PM couldn’t resist and tweeted saying, “Now that’s really cute…just one day fast against himself,”

WILL IT BE ENOUGH?
Fasting and Indian Politics just go hand in hand. From Anna Hazare to Kejriwal and now the PM himself. It is like the most trending way of protesting according to the Indian Politicians.
But this time when all the opposition parties are standing at the barriers against the ruling like a great wall. The million dollar question is will just fasting be enough for streamlining the parliament run? It seems like PM Modi is under verbal attacks from all the sides, where his every statement is being questioned, analyzed and unfortunately for him proved wrong.

Will one day fast really be enough to stop this weeks long ruckus?
When yesterday in Bihar, PM Modi praised the government for constructing 8.5 lakh toilets in just a week’s time, leader of the opposition took it to the twitter to disprove him. Doing the math right, Tejashwi Yadav concluded that building toilets in such a large number was only possible if 84 toilets were being built per minute.

This time it doesn’t look like any emotional trigger like fasting will do the Modi magic. For it seems to be his “fast” twisting race against the odds where issues concerning his own promising words of “Acche din aane wale hain” are now standing against him.
