Three days long coordinated attack, known as 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which started on 26th November, 2008, left the financial capital of India dumbfounded. Leaving 166 people dead and injuring around 300 people, attacks came to an end on 29th November. 26/11 attacks came as a fuel for the fire of enmity between India and Pakistan as Jamaat-ud-Daiva (JuD) chief, Hafeez Saeed, master minded the attacks. 10 years into the case, came a stormy admission by former Pakistani Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif in an exclusive interview with Pakistani news channel, Dawn, regarding the attacks which acted further strengthened Indo-Pak enmity.

In reference to the trials related to Mumbai attacks that are running in Rawalpinde anti-terrorism court, he said, “Militant organizations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial,” His interview stirred storm and soon after, his statement was turned into a charge sheet against Pakistan for being involved in 26/11 attacks by the Indian media. On the other hand, Pakistani media and opponents criticised him for harming national interests and allegedly supporting India’s narrative on the attacks.

However, Sharif’s spokesperson said, “At the outset statement of Nawaz Sharif has been grossly misinterpreted by the Indian media. This rare admission from a top Pak leader was followed by a series of tweets by some prominent leaders from the country. Major General Asif Ghafoor, Pak Army spokesman tweeted, “The NSC (National Security Committee) suggested to Prime Minister, Shahid Kaqan Abbasi, to discuss recent misleading media statement regarding Bombay incident. Being held tomorrow,” Imran Khan, chairperson of Tehreek – e – Insaaf tweeted, “Nawaz Sharif is the modern day Mir – Jafar, who collaborated with the British to enslave his nation for personal gains, Nawaz speaking Modi’s language against Pakistan state simply to protect his ill – gotten, Rs 300 billion stashed in his son’s company abroad.” When rest of the nation stood against Sharif and criticised him, his younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif supported him by saying, “Can anybody think that Nawaz Sharif will say such things,”

Regarding the case, in November, 2008, the Lashkar – e – Taiba (LeT) terrorists sailed from Karachi to Mumbai and carried out 3 days long co-ordinated attacks, killing 166 people and injuring 300. Even after 10 years, none of the suspects have been punished yet, it seems as if Pakistan is keen on putting the case under the carpet. However, ruling PML – N (Pakistani Muslims League – Nawaz) member said, “I say with full responsibility that the delay and slow pace of Mumbai attacks related case in Pakistan was not Pakistan’s doing but was a result of non – cooperation and stubbornness by India,” Pakistan’s FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) under Nisar, was investigating 26/11 Mumbai attacks, said, “Since the assault took place in the Indian financial capital, it was the Indian government which possessed 90% of the evidence and facts of the incident,”
