I know they say it’s better to keep all our inhibitions aside in the matters of the hearts, but who are we kidding to? So here’s a 21st century list for a 21st century girl to check before she ties the knot.
1) GO ON THAT GIRL’S TRIP YOU’VE BEEN PLANNING
When we’re in love we often seem to get lost in the world that sadly doesn’t include anyone but our beaus. Like for most other important decisions, your girlfriends approval is a must, she does get the bird’s view to your relationship. So reconnect with your girlies and get sometime away from your man to make sure he’s right for you. Bonus – Absence does make the heart grow fonder
2 ) SPEND TIME WITH ‘HIS’ FAMILY
For some (most) of you, this won’t seem like the most exciting thing to do before your marriage, after all there’s going to be plenty of getting to know after the marriage. Spending time with his family is important because those people are a part of who he is, and knowing them means knowing him better. Also, aim for the mommy because the way to a guy’s heart is 50% through his stomach and 50% through his mother’s good books
3) CLEAR-UP ALL YOUR SKELETONS
As tempting as it is to leave your past behind and move on with your man, it’s important for him to know how you got to where you are. Secrets and Lies have a way of coming out at the worst of times.
Bonus – Your Beau can make a list of all your troubled ex’s for the bouncers to stop at your wedding, unless you love ‘drama’, the bad kind.
4) TAKE A VACATION TOGETHER
You can’t completely know a man unless you’ve been on a vacation together. Trust me, those missed flights, travellers diarrhoea, squeaky motel beds have a way of testing our patience. Once you’re past staying together 24×7, away from your old routines, you’ll see a completely new side of him, one you should hopefully like if you’re planning on marrying him
5) TALK ABOUT HAVING KIDS
Yes I’m aware, I’m sounding like your grandmother right now and you have more important things on your mind right now, but talking about your plans regarding children is important because somewhere down the line, either of you is going to want it and if the other doesn’t agree, it’s going to get messy. So save yourself the most clichéd marital problem and discuss your baby plans beforehand.
6) TALK ABOUT YOUR CAREER
Before you get married, it’s important to discuss how you’re going to handle your career, If you both want to work hard and play harder or you want to be the real housewife of Beverly hills and chill at home. It’s up to you, but make sure you both have similar plans.
7) FOUND YOUR DREAM DRESS
That’s pretty obvious now isn’t it?
