The Muslim leader, Asaduddin Owaisi, also the chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), came down heavily on Delhi police, on Thursday, June 9, after the latter filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the former for disturbing public tranquility and harmony. The Delhi Police has also named other renowned leaders including religious leaders like Swami Yati Narsinghanand, expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders like Nupur Sharma & Naveen Jindal among others.
The Delhi Police has cited alleged inflammatory remarks by the AIMIM chief on Wednesday, June 8 in a public addressing. The Muslim leader alleged that the Delhi Police is suffering from both “sideism” and “balance-waad” syndrome. “I have received an excerpt of the FIR. This is the first FIR I have seen that’s not specifying what the crime is. Imagine an FIR about a murder where cops don’t mention the weapon or that the victim bled to death. I don’t know which specific remarks of mine have attracted the FIR.” said AIMIM chief in a series of tweets from his official Twitter account.

The Muslim leader stepped ahead to claim that Delhi Police lacks courage to put Nupur Sharma & Naveen Jindal, etc. in the lockup. “It appears that Delhi Police lacks the courage to pursue cases against Yati, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal etc. This is why the delayed and weak response,” the AIMIM chief stated in his tweet. Owaisi further tweeted that Yati’s statements are violative of the bail conditions repeatedly.
“In fact, Yati has violated his bail conditions repeatedly by inciting genocide against Muslims and insulting Islam. Delhi Police were probably trying to think of a way of registering an FIR against these people without offending Hindutvadi fanboys/girls,” read the tweet by Owaisi on Thursday.
The Member of Parliament (MP) also stated that Delhi Police is practicing both “sideism” or “balance-waad”. The sections that the Delhi Police have registered the FIR under are 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 295 (intent to insult the religion of any class), 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code. Notices will be sent out to the social media intermediaries pertaining to this matters.
