In a heart astonishing incident reported from Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, an 87-year old senior citizen woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified man inside her own house on Sunday, Feb 13. The incident has shocked the entire world as the victim is reported to have been bedridden for the last 7 months and lives with her 67-year old daughter. As per the report by ANI, the daughter of the victim had gone for a walk post-lunch around 12.15pm and discovered this despicable incident upon her return around 2pm. Initially, the daughter of the victim assumed it to be the case of a mobile theft only, stated the police.
“The daughter said a person entered her house on the pretext of fixing gas and took a mobile phone with him. The police registered a theft FIR following that,” stated the Delhi police in its statement, reported the ANI report. However, the police got informed by several Twitterities online that the woman was raped by an unknown man.
As per the Additional DCP, West Delhi, Prashant Gautam, the police team received a call regarding the incident and it reached the spot to learn the matter. “We had received a call, our team reached the spot immediately. The initial complaint was that a boy had entered the house on the pretext of getting the gas fixed, the victim’s mobile has been stolen.” stated Addl. DCP Gautam, quoted the report.
“But some people tweeted saying that an 87-year-old woman has been raped, after which another complaint was registered with Delhi Police. Fresh allegation has come this morning in the case. We have registered a new FIR as per the relevant section. The investigation is on and the accused will be arrested soon.” stated the Addl. DCP when enquired about the case from him, quoted the report.
The Delhi police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case and nab the unidentified accused as soon as possible. The Addl. DCP informed the media that the police is taking help of CCTV cameras around the crime spot in order to apprehend the accused forthwith. The police has assured stringent action against the culprit who is on the run presently. The police is also waiting for the receipt of the medical report which will uncover the truth if the woman was raped.
Update: Feb 15, 2022 – The accused is arrested by the Delhi police on Feb 15. The accused is identified as a 30-year old sweeper who lives in the nearby locality of the crime spot. The police informed that the mobile phone is recovered from the accused.
