While the assembly elections are heading closer to the state of Uttar Pradesh, the political roads have started bustling with comments of the political parties almost everyday. While the state sees religious diversity, the focus of lenses are more on which religion supports which political party. Amid the ongoing speculations that All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) would support a particular party in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the president of the board has surprised everyone with his denial to support any political party in this election.
The AIMPLB President, Maulana Raabey Hasani Nadwi, on Monday, July 19, asked people to use their democratic right to vote for their political parties “intelligently”. He also warned people to not fall prey to anyone’s trap and vote freely using their democratic right.
“Many people have started asking me to issue an appeal in favour of a particular party. These people have no knowledge of the ideals, rules and regulations, history, constitution and work area of AIMPLB. Section 4 of the board’s constitution clearly states that AIMPLB as an institution will not align to any form of politics. In both my capacity as an individual and as head of AIMPLB and Nadwa, the fact remains so,” said AIMBLB president on Monday.
Nadwi also delinked AIMPLB from rumours making rounds that it supports any political party in this election. He stated that the rumour mill may suggest anything but people must not believe any rumours pertaining to AIMPLB supportive of any political party. He said that everyone has a democratic right to vote for their preferred political party, and that the constitution of the board does not allow anyone from the board to make any appeal to anyone to favor any political party.
“Rumour mills work on an overdrive when elections are round the corner. So be wary of any such appeals and take them with a pinch of salt. identify such people who spread misinformation and do not fall for their trap. Voting is everyone’s democratic right and it should be used with utmost intelligence and deliberation so that it is helpful for the country and the community as a whole,” said Maulana Nadvi while warning people to not fall prey to any rumours, quoted TOI report.
