In a bizarre reference to current calamities in the country with mishandling of shariat, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad belonging to Samajwadi Party (SP) came to the eyes of critics on Wednesday, June 2. The SP leader made a controversial reference to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the country and the recently departed cyclones like Taukte & Yaas which made some catastrophic effect in several parts of the country.
SP leader and MP, ST Hasan, recalled the 7 years of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) reign in which he claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by BJP has promoted discriminations in the country. He claimed that the NDA government has interfered with Muslims’ Sharia Law and as a result, the country is facing calamities like COVID-19 pandemic & cyclones like tragedy in the country.
“I believe everyone has a right to pat their backs but in the past seven years, the situation people faced is not hidden from anyone. The injustice and discrimination that were done to the masses are not hidden from anyone. Be it discrimination in providing jobs or providing license, or interference with Shariyat..Due to these discriminations, we have seen how many calamities are befalling us. There were 2 cyclones within 10 days. We saw what happened to poor people due to Corona,” Hasan was seen saying in a viral video, quoted by ANI.
Hasan further said that religious people in India who are in majority believe that the world is run by superficial power who is empowered to do justice. The SP leader stated that if justice is not served on the earth then the one sitting in the sky (God) will serve the justice. He then recalled the incidents of dumping of dead bodies in the rivers, and questioned the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government if it is a government of rich and privileged, or of poor and underprivileged.
This is not the first instance when the SP leader made a mockery of himself in the public discourse, but he has been making controversial claims in the past too. In 2019, after the abolition of Triple Talaq, the SP MP had said that Modi government abolished the age-long precedent of Triple Talaq to show that it dares to interfere with Sharia Law.
