The BMC Mayor also informed the media about a First Information Report (FIR) being registered by the civic body against the unknown persons behind the offence. She assured that necessary action has been initiated and that the accused will be brought to justice.

The BMC Mayor further stated that it is speculated that the trees were disturbing putting of hoardings and it is possible that the trees were brought down for it.
Pednekar stated that a letter in this regard has been sent to the Railway administration to identify the culprits and assured for a strict action. She stated that cutting the trees without the permission of the civic body is an offence.
“The municipality has lodged an FIR alleging that small bushes were cut down by an unknown person. It is being speculated that the hoardings may be disturbed and the trees may have been cut down. The incident became an inflammatory issue after the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Pravin Darekar, condemned the cutting of 25-30 trees in the Worli area of Mumbai. Darekar, on Sunday, condemned the incident and termed it as a “shameful act” as the whole world celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2021.
“It is a very shameful act that a day after celebrating World Environment Day, trees were cut down. Around 25-30 trees have been brought down in Worli. We condemn the act. We have come here to visit and take a note of the situation.” Darekar was quoted as saying in the report by ANI. As per BJP, the act is committed by ones who put up illegal hoardings. BJP alleged that such rampant cutting of trees have taken place in Borivali, Andheri and Chowpatty localities.
BJP has demanded setting up of a special committee for investigation in the matter to unearth the truth and bring the alleged “gang” to justice.
