COVID-19 Vaccination Drive: Several Reports of ‘Adverse Events’ Reported from Telangana

<p style=”text-align: justify;”>The most awaited moment of vaccination drive against CoronaVirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) kick-started on Saturday, Jan 16 across several states in India with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the drive virtually. Among several states, Telangana also commenced its first COVID-19 vaccination drive on Jan 16 and around 33 districts in the state were made a part of this mega vaccination drive, as per Telangana state government.</p>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>While the nation looked at this drive with a hope to diminish the effect of the lethal virus on its people, several cases of Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) were reported from the state.</p>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>The state government informed, as per a report by <a href=”https://www.aninews.in/news/national/general-news/11-adverse-events-reported-on-day-1-of-covid-19-vaccination-drive-in-telangana20210117011157/” target=”_blank”>ANI</a>, a total of 140 sessions of Corona Virus vaccination took place across 33 districts of the state wherein 3,962 beneficiaries out of the total target of 4,296 were vaccinated effectively on Jan 16. Out of the total beneficiaries vaccinated, 11 cases were reported of mild AEFI, reported ANI.</p>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>As per the report, the beneficiaries complained of pain, giddiness and sweating in their body after the vaccination. It is stated that these are considered to be common in any vaccination program.</p>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>The Director of Public Health & Welfare, Dr. Srinivas Rao, stated that Telangana successfully vaccinated 85% of the total targeted beneficiaries on the first day of vaccination drive in 139 centers across the state, quoted ANI report. “After Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the vaccination drive across the country, the state (Telangana) was able to kick start the vaccination drive in 139 centers across the state,” Dr. Rao was quoted as saying in the ANI report.</p>
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>PM Narendra Modi launched the grand vaccination drive on Jan 16 via video conferencing and the selected districts across the country underwent through this program to benefit those affected by CoronaVirus.</p>
