The former Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) leader and current Member of Parliament (MP) from Bishnupur constituency, also the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), West Bengal effectuated his earlier announcement of divorcing his wife, Sujata Mondal, for joining the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led TMC. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP has sent a legal notice seeking divorce from his wife after being “subjected to mental and emotional torture” which has become unbearable now and hence, he seeks dissolution of their marriage.
The legal notice sent by Khan through his lawyer, Sameer Kumar, has called upon Mondal to execute the divorce under the mutual consent provision of Section 13(B) of Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 within next 30 days. The notice further avers to initiate legal proceedings in the court of law to dissolve the marriage, upon failure at Mondal’s part to execute divorce under mutual consent.
Mondal reacted to Khan’s divorce notice and claimed that the latter is functioning in “the company of bad people from BJP”. “When politics enter your personal lives, it becomes bad for the relationship. Saumitra is in the company of bad people from BJP who are trying to instigate him against me,” alleged Mondal while speaking to news agency, ANI.

Mondal then went on to attack BJP on the matter of abolishment of Triple Talaq. “The party that abolished Triple Talaq is asking Saumitra to divorce me today,” said Mondal while attacking the BJP leadership.
The rift between Saumitra and Sujata erupted after the latter joined TMC by making allegations of BJP sidelining the grassroot workers and giving the platform to the opportunists. “The party (BJP) sidelined the grassroots workers like us and gave more importance to opportunists leaders. The party does not have any stand and no clear face to fight the (ensuing Assembly) elections,” said Mondal while joining TMC in the presence of TMC MP Sougata Roy and TMC Spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
