The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled Uttar Pradesh is making its leadership feel the sweat after repeated rape cases are making headlines. After the outrage over the rape of a 19-year-old young woman in Hathras who was suspiciously cremated in the silence of the night, there was yet another 22-year-old dalit woman was allegedly poisoned, beaten, gang-raped and found dead in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh.
The woman passed away on Tuesday on her way to the hospital. The woman, reportedly, had gone out in the morning for admission work and had not returned which created panic among her family members who began to search her themselves. The woman returned in the evening in a rickshaw and was left on the road. When the family took her in, she had broken body parts and a glucose syringe that dug into her wrist.
According to the family, the woman had been taken to a doctor in the name of treatment and then allegedly raped. The two accused, Shahid and Sahil, were arrested as charges for rape and murder were framed against them. The two are now jailed.
“A complaint was filed by the brother that two accused in the case, Shahid and Sahil, raped the woman and then, when her condition became serious, they sent her home on a rickshaw. The relatives say she died on the way to hospital. The police have registered a case of murder and gang rape and both accused have been arrested and are being jailed. Some media channels are running that her hands, feet and waist was broken but there is no mention of this in the post mortem.” said Balrampur SP, Dev Ranjan Verma.
The woman’s mother’s side of the story is worded differently as she said, “The men had injected her with some substance due to which she lost consciousness. Then they raped her… They broke her legs, they broke her back. A rickshaw-wala brought her home. She was thrown in front of our house. My child could barely stand or speak.”
Confirming that the allegations might not be valid, Balrampur SP Ranjan said, “In the said case, prompt action has been taken by the police with both the accused arrested. Details that hands and legs were broke is not true. The post-mortem report does not mention this.” He then went ahead to continue, and said, “Her hands had a glucose syringe sticking out. She appeared to be in a very bad condition.” Sympathetically.
The victim’s family was given a compensation of Rs. 6 lakhs. “The family members were assured that the accused will be given a strict punishment in accordance with law. A letter sanctioning a financial assistance of ₹ 6,18,450 was handed over to them by the mahant (of a famous local temple). The amount will be sent to the victim’s mother’s bank account by the afternoon.” An official statement read.
The Uttar Pradesh Government, led by Yogi Adityanath, after the Hathras Gangrape case where the victim’s body was cremated forcibly, allegedly, by the local police, has been facing all kinds of criticism and for all the right reasons.
It is being alleged in the media reports that the fact that the victim’s body was made to burn not only by force but in the middle of the night is enough proof of something not being right. Addressing the situation and voicing out the country’s take on the situation, Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav pointed out at the Yogi Adityanath Government and said. “After Hathras, another gang rape incident has surfaced in Balrampur in which the woman died after torture. The BJP government should not attempt a cover up here like Hathras and should quickly take action against the accused.”
