The standing committee on information technology, headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has withdrawn the issue of suspension of 4G internet services in J&K from the agenda of its next meeting on September 1-2. The decision came after LS Speaker Om Birla’s recent letter to all parliamentary panel heads asking them not to take up issues which are sub-judice. The issue of 4G services in Jammu & Kashmir is pending with the Supreme Court.
A modified agenda was sent to the panel members on Friday according to which the committee will take evidence from representatives of the telecom department, home ministry, Bihar and Delhi about suspension of telecom services, internet and its impact. The previous agenda had listed the UT of J&K also.
