The staunch saffron right wing organisation, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), on Monday, August 3, hit back at Congress party leader Digvijay Singh’s claim that former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, had first laid the foundation stone of Ram Mandir. The VHP Working President, Alok Kumar, trashed Digvijay Singh’s claim and added that Rajiv Gandhi never even visited the holy place of Ramjanmbhoomi. In his statement, Kumar asserted that Bihar’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Kameshwar Chaupal, laid the first foundation stone for holy Ram Mandir in 1989.
“It (Digvijay Singh’s claim) is absolutely false. Kameshwar Chaupal ji laid the foundation stone of the temple in 1989. Rajiv Gandhi ji had no role in this. He never accepted that he supports the temple. He himself never visited the Ramjanmbhoomi,” said Alok Kumar on Monday, August 3, quoted ANI.
Congress party’s most controversial leader, Digvijay Singh, had stoked a controversy by stating that former PM Rajiv Gandhi had laid the first foundation stone for sacred Ram Mandir. The Rajya Sabha MP was reacting to a reporter’s question on the claim of former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath that Rajiv Gandhi also wanted to construct Ram Mandir.
“The foundation stone (for Ram Mandir) has already been laid, Rajiv Gandhi ji did it,” said Singh while answering a question of a reporter. The comment by the senior Congress party leader just 2 days ahead of the grand foundation stone laying ceremony of holy Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, was bound to get a strong reaction from the right wing leaders.
The VHP has now reacted to Singh’s claim with facts and more comments are speculated ahead of the grand foundation stone laying ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on Wednesday, August 5.
The VHP Working President also assured for a new India with the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He said that there will be emphasis on women empowerment and leveraging of backward class with construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
“With this Ram Mandir being built in Ayodhya, we have imagined a future for India. An India where women are empowered, backward class people get jobs and are aware of the government policies and get the benefits from them. We will try to bring this change in the country,” wished Kumar while speaking to ANI on Monday.
