Ajanta News reached out to the local MLA, Abu Azmi, who represents Samajwadi Party (SP) and sought clarification on Karishma’s allegations on him. Azmi, initially, dodged our direct question on the statement, allegedly, said by him asking the girl to vacate her residence if she has an inconvenience with the Azan noise. Azmi refuted making any such statement for the girl and appealed to Hindus and Muslims of the area to live peacefully together.

“Main bilkul aisa nahin kehta hoon. Hindu ko, muslim ko saath me milkar rehna chahiye, mandir me pooja ho, masjid me azan ho, sab milkar rahein, bas yehi chahta hu aur kuch nahin chahta, (I don’t say this (to leave the residence if the girl has inconvenience with Azan noise). Hindus and Muslims should live together, there should be worshipping in Hindu temples and Azan in Mosque, everyone must live together, that’s all I wish and nothing else),” stated Abu Azmi in conversation with Ajanta News.

Ajanta News also asked Abu Azmi if he will demand for police protection to Karishma Bhosale as she alleges threats to her life. “Koi dhamki nahin de raha hai, sabko daant ke rakha hai ki battamizi koi nahin karna chahiye, koi faltugiri nahin honi chahiye, maine yehi cheez police ko bola hai, commissioner ko bola hai, (Nobody is threatening anyone, everyone has been kept under check to abstain from misbehaving or any ruckus (with Karishma), I have said this to the police commissioner also the same thing)” asserted Abu Azmi while speaking to Ajanta News.

Azmi also claimed that he has spoken to the area DCP who has assured him of complete cooperation from the police side to pacify the tension between the communities. Upon our next question that if a girl is complaining of inconvenience to her due to Azan volume then what’s wrong in servicing her request to reduce the volume of the loudspeaker, the MLA claimed “nobody has any inconvenience with the loudspeaker noise, only communal people have inconvenience”. Ajanta News team is also trying to reach Karishma Bhosale to take her version on the same.

Meanwhile, Karishma has signed a petition on Change.org to “stop the high decibel noise of Azan” which is endorsed by thousands after the clash between Karishma and unruly group on the issue of illegal use of loudspeaker for causing inconvenience to public in the name of Azan. The fast growing number every second in favour of the petition is showing the signs of the number of people affected due to the use of loudspeaker for Azan.

In 2017, legendary Bollywood singer, Sonu Nigam, had rocked headlines for tweeting against “forced religiousness” of waking him up due to high volume of loudspeakers used for Azan. “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning,” read the tweet by the ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ singer. He had sparked a debate on internet and the topic was trending for some days back then.
