The Chinese tech brand, Huami, was, in March, reported to have been working on an N95 like facemask which will be made of an anti-fog transparent material. The facemask is said to cause no hindrance in the face recognition process built in a smartphone. The name of this facemask is reported to be Amazfit Aeri, the image renders of which show a very attractive transparent design. The transparent N95 like facemask by Huami is said to have the mechanism to clean itself due to the Ultraviolet Light Emitter.
The news has cropped up at the time when the whole world is mandating wearing facemasks in public. Due to the ongoing Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, wearing facemasks has become a normal etiquette. However, due to the ever-growing demands of the facemasks, majority of countries have reported shortage of facemasks, especially, that of N95 facemasks. Many people are switching to cloth made facemasks due to this.
The major concern with the high end masks is the reusability and it’s cleaning. The other issue with it is the ventilation due to less air permeation through the facemask material. The self cleaning mechanism of the Amazfit Aeri, if it so develops, is the need of the hour. The process is backed by the availability of removable air filters and the inbuilt ultraviolet light emitter.
The UV light emitter can be activated by simply charging the mask for few minutes using it’s USB-C plug. The spokesperson of Huami stated that it may take closely six month to one year to bring this invention in the market. The price, though, hasn’t been revealed, but the spokesperson has hinted at keeping the price as affordable as possible.
