The tragic incident of styrene gas leakage from LG Polymers factory based in RR Venkatapuram village of Andhra Pradesh’s Vishakhapatnam, on Thursday, May 7, has resulted into deaths of 11 persons and hundreds admitted to the hospitals. Vizag shocked the whole nation by this tragic incident as the nation woke up to this disturbing news in the morning of Thursday.
The gas leakage began, reportedly, at 3.30 am of Thursday and spread to the adjoining residential areas. The state administration and central government pumped in all support to subsume the effect of this leakage. The areas around the factory were evacuated while those affected were rushed to the nearby hospitals.
The state police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against LG Polymers under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Thursday. The Andhra Pradesh police booked LG Polymers under IPC Sections 278, 284, 285, 337, 338 & 304-II. However, no arrests have been made in the incident.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has announced the ex-gratia of Rs. 1 crore to the kins of each deceased victim. The chief minister announced that Rs. 10 lacs will be paid to those victims on ventilators due to this tragic incident.
