The Delhi police Special Cell, on Wednesday, April 22, slapped additional charges on Delhi’s Nehru Vihar Municipal Councillor, Tahir Hussain, in the North East Delhi violence that emerged on February 23 – 24. As per sources, the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Hussain, has been charged under several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Tahir Hussain is already charged with other sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for inciting communal violence and also in the alleged murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, Ankit Sharma, during the riots. Sharma’s body was recovered from Chand Bagh; his body showed numerous injury marks of stabbing.
Several videos surfaced online following the riots, which, allegedly, showed Tahir Hussain’s house’s rooftop used during the riots. The videos allegedly showed him and his accomplices present at the rooftop of his residence while the crime of hurling petrol bombs from the rooftop was reported.

The video showed petrol bombs hurled from his house’s rooftop on the people and public properties around his residence. He is currently under judicial custody on the charges of inciting communal riots and the alleged murder of Ankit Sharma.
The Special Cell of Delhi police has, reportedly, also booked former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, Umar Khalid, and other student union activists under UAPA on Tuesday, April 21. They were also charged under several sections of the UAPA with links in the North East Delhi riots. As per sources, several sections like 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of UAPA have been levied on them.
