The whole episode of mob-lynching of these three victims can fill anyone with rage against the inhuman and irrational conduct of the mob. The most important question everyone wonders about is the function of the police force. Couldn’t police officials present at the spot protect the victims till the reinforcement were there? Was it not possible for the police to fire in the air to scatter the mob? Couldn’t the police officials shield the victims and speak to the mob to buy time till the reinforcement reached the spot?

The local police officials claimed that the police force reached the spot as soon as they were informed about the incident. However, as the police officials got outnumbered by the maniac mob, they couldn’t save the trio from mob-lynching. “They were declared brought dead at the hospital. About 110 villagers have been brought to police stations for questioning. Further probe underway”, said Shinde, quoted ANI.

The trio are identified as Sant Kalpvruksh Giri (70), Sushil Giri Maharaj (35), Naresh Telgade (driver) who were on their way to Nashik from Mumbai to attend the funeral of Shri. Mahant Ramgiri Ji. This may surprise many as even after the lockdown, how were they allowed to travel between districts. The Shree Panch Dashnaam Joona Akhada has requested chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in their letter to initiate a thorough probe in the incident and bring the culprits to justice.

The police have started the investigation and are exploring all angles to nab the miscreants. It will be interesting to see if police is able to book the culprits based on the videos available of the incident.
