A disturbing news has been reported from Mumbai’s Kandivali area where a resident has allegedly killed his own brother over stepping out during the nation wide lockdown to contain Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The incident took place in Samta Nagar of Kandivali East on Thursday, March 26.
Ajanta News spoke to a police official, familiar to the case, from Samta Nagar police station who asked to remain undisclosed while giving out information. As per him, the accused, Rajesh Laxmi Thakur (28), stepped out of his house with his wife for grocery shopping amid the rigorous lockdown in the city.
When they returned home, Rajesh’s younger brother, Durgesh Thakur (21) questioned the duo for the urgency to go out for grocery shopping, the police official added. This resulted into a furious argument between the two brothers. Durgesh was present with his another friend in the house when this tiff occured between the two brothers, the police official informed.
The police official from Samta Nagar police station further narrated that Durgesh slapped Rajesh’s wife during the argument which aggravated Rajesh. Rajesh, allegedly, attacked Durgesh with an iron pan kept in the kitchen and the latter sustained multiple injuries. Durgesh was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The police official from Samta Nagar police station informed Ajanta News that a murder charge under Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused. The accused was presented before the magistrate who granted his police custody till April 1.
Ajanta News also desired to check from the police official if there was any other angle to the murder case. To which, the police official denied and stated that no other angle has been discovered so far in the investigation.
