AIMIM MLA and Supporters Allegedly Manhandle Malegaon Hospital Staff, Nabbed by Police

The doctors and the hospital staff, after the incident, came out of the general hospital and sat on the strike outside the hospital. The staff was joined by the senior surgeons from Nashik General Hospital including the Dy. Director, District Civil Surgeon, etc.

Amid the ongoing nation-wide Lockdown till mid April in order to contain the spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disturbing footage has surfaced in the news showing All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Maharashtra’s Malegaon, Maulana Mufti Ismail. Ismail is allegedly seen in the video footage with his 20-25 supporters creating ruckus in a hospital. One of his supporters in the video clip could also be seen trying to misbehave as well as kick a hospital staff while murmuring something.

Notably, Section 144 of CrPC was imposed in the district when Ismail and his supporters created this ruckus in the hospital. Section 144 of CrPC prohibits assembly of 3 or more persons in the area where law and order situation is apprehended to be disturbed. Even then, Ismail and his gang of supporters barged into the Malegaon General Hospital and took law in their own hands, media reports suggested. As per the report by the news agency, ANI, the Medical Superintendent at the hospital, Dr. Kishore Dange, was also manhandled and misbehaved with during the ruckus. The incident took place on Wednesday, March 25, the report suggested.

The doctors and the hospital staff, after the incident, came out of the general hospital and sat on the strike outside the hospital. The staff was joined by the senior surgeons from Nashik General Hospital including the Dy. Director, District Civil Surgeon, etc.

The staff filed a police complaint against the MLA and his henchmen for the misbehaviour and altercation. Ismail alleged that he had sent 5 Corona Virus suspects to the hospital who returned after 10 minutes, Times Now reported. He further alleged that he called the doctor 18 times but nobody picked up his calls. He, subsequently, called up doctor’s assistant who promised for a callback from the doctor after he gets free.

However, upon receiving no calls from the doctor or staff in the next 4 hours, as per Ismail, he then went to meet Dr. Dange with 2-3 of his supporters. He also claimed that he or his supporters didn’t attack any of the doctors.

As per another report by OpIndia, one of the two suspects who allegedly opened fire at the residence of the AIMIM leader Rizwan Khan in Malegaon recently is admitted in the same hospital. The suspect is undergoing treatment in the Malegaon General Hospital on the direction from the court trying him in the case. However, as per the report, Ismail was furious on the extended period of treatment to the suspect. This led to the altercation between the hospital staff and Ismail & his accomplices.

Reacting to the news, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Kumar Vishvas, appealed to CM Uddhav Thackeray of Maharashtra to make the arrest of Ismail and his accomplices. “Shamelessness on peak 😡👎 !Hon @CMOMaharashtra instruct your police to arrest this man and punish hard ! @asadowaisi you should condemn and suspend your MLA for all this vandalism” tweeted Kumar Vishvas tagging CM Uddhav Thackeray and AIMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi.

The MLA and his supporters were arrested by the cops in the incident on Thursday. Ismail was lately in the news for his inflammatory remark while addressing a gathering. While reacting to the alleged firing on his party leader, Rizwan Khan, in Malegaon, Ismail had made a provocative comment. “An incident of firing took place in city, why was no FIR registered?…If it comes to us then dept (Police dept) should note that if we know to maintain peace, we also know how peace would go away. We aren’t wearing bangles.” Ismail was heard saying in his fiery speech, quoted ANI.

He later clarified that it was said in the context of the firing on his party leader in the city of Malegaon. “I said it in the context of my city. It’s not connected with Maharashtra or India. Firing which our people are being subjected to (at AIMIM’s Rizwan Khan’s house), in this context I said we help the department in maintaining peace, if we stop that then peace would be disrupted.” Ismail had clarified while speaking to ANI.
