Notably, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 doesn’t have an inbuilt 5G modem, but comes with Snapdragon X55 5G modem to make a smartphone 5G compatible. This may be the case in OnePlus’ upcoming launch lineups OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

However, it is speculated that OnePlus may launch it’s handsets without the Snapdragon X55 5G modem. This speculation is based on the similar arrangements made in the iQoo 3 where the company launched the smartphone with Snapdragon 865 SoC but deactivated the 5G modem.

It is also speculated that OnePlus may not activate the 5G modem in the Indian variant of the upcoming lineups. This is because, India is still to launch 5G network in the country. Likewise, there are other markets where 5G is still just an anticipation. Hence, OnePlus may come up with the 5G enabled as well as deactivated variants based on the market it chooses to launch the handset in.
