The Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, has filed a patent application to ease the charging of earbuds using the battery power of it’s smartphone using reverse charging. The patent application filed in the China Intellectual Property Association (CIPA) shows a smartphone case with a hump behind the case which supposedly engineered to enclose the earbuds.
The hump behind the case looks a bit odd but there is a possibility that Xiaomi plans to make it a detachable one. By this way, the user may have to charge just the smartphone and the earbuds attached to it at the back will act like a parasite to get it’s energy from the smartphone’s battery. This reverse charging technology is already in use in the smartphones using the charging port. However, Xiaomi has stepped a little more forward to ease the charging mechanism for the earbuds while being out without a power bank.
The case shown in the patent application shows the room for a vertically aligned multi lens camera module at the back in the case cover. The application for this patent design reads, “This appearance design product is a mobile phone accessory, which can be installed on the mobile phone, used to store the earphone, and charge the headset.” The design was first reported by 91Mobiles to show this patent application.
There seem to be no Xiaomi smartphones currently available with such a mechanism at the back for reverse charging. However, it is speculated that Xiaomi may come up with a smartphone to support such a kind of reverse charging mechanism for the true earbuds.
We, though, do not know if this design will see the light of the day, however, the patent application has attracted many eyeballs as of now. We will have to wait and watch if Xiaomi considers to bring this patent design to reality.
