Lokare is a known face in the ward number 141 as he had won the 2017 held BMC civic poll from Congress party’s ticket. Lokare was a sitting Congress party corporator from ward number 141. However, he resigned from Congress party in August 2019 to join the saffron party Shiv Sena. This resulted into the call for a by-election in the BMC ward number 141.
The Shiv Sena’s newly inducted corporator got successful in securing 4,427 votes from his ward constituency in this by-election. Lokare got a tough competition from his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) counter-part, Dinesh (Bablu) Panchal, who got successful in securing 3,042 votes.
Notably, Lokare had also contested from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar Lok Sabha constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly Election 2019 where he was defeated by over 25,000 votes. He lost the assembly poll by such a giant margin from his Samajwadi Party (SP) counter-part, Abu Azmi. Azmi is an eminent SP leader who has been the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar constituency since 2009.
It was speculated that Lokare’s performance may get affected due to his giant defeat in the October 2019 concluded assembly election. However, Lokare swept the by-poll in the Mankhurd ward number 141 held on January 9, Thursday. The richest civic body of the country has the total of 227 seats across it’s jurisdiction.
