The whole nation commends the Delhi Patiala House court for it’s judgement issuing death warrant to the four death row convicts in the 2012 ‘Nirbhaya’ gang rape and brutal murder case. The Delhi court pronounced the order in presence of the four convicts viz; Akshay Kumar Singh, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma, who were presented before the judge through video conferencing. The four convicts will be hanged till death on January 22, at 7 am. The judgement has come in reply to the plea seeking ‘black warrant’ against the four convicts.
Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, has hailed the court decision and called this step a victory of the judicial system. “My daughter has got justice. Execution of the four convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system.” said Nirbhaya’s mother after the verdict was pronounced by the Patiala House court.
Nirbhaya’s father hailed the decision by the court against the four convicts of the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. He said that this verdict will instill fear among the people fearless to commit the crime against women. “I am happy with the court’s decision. The convicts will be hanged at 7am on January 22. This decision will instill fear in people who commit such crimes,” Nirbhaya’s father was quoted as saying by media reports.
The Chief of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), Swati Maliwal, hailed the court’s verdict against the four convicts by tweeting “Satyamev Jayate (Hail Truth)”. While speaking on the verdict, Maliwal welcomed the decision to hang the convicts of the heinous crime. She showed respect towards the parents of Nirbhaya for fighting this battle for 7 odd years. While she also raised question on the period justice got delayed in the open and shut case like of Nirbhaya. “Strongly welcome this decision. It is a win for all the ‘Nirbhayas’ living in this country.I salute Nirbhaya’s parents who fought for 7 long years. Why has it taken 7yrs to punish these people? Why can’t this time period be reduced?,” reacted Maliwal, quoted news agency ANI.

The case is a December 16, 2012 gang rape and brutal murder case of a Delhi based lady who was grievously injured while raping her in a moving bus. The lady was taken to the Singapore based Mount Elizabeth Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries after battling for 14 days.
The case got worldwide attention as thousands of protesters came on streets to lash out on the then Congress-led government. The rape was so heinous that the rape victim has several irreparable injuries to her private parts. The Delhi police arrested 6 accused in the case.
Out of the 6 accused, primary accused Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide while being in the jail. One more accused, a minor, was sent to the reform facility and later released after 3 years. His identity is still unknown to many.
