Xiaomi files Patent for In-Display Camera Module for it’s Upcoming Smartphone

As per speculations around this new concept, the company may induct this technology in the Mi Mix 4. The smartphone, though, have been refused by one of Xiaomi's executives. The speculations were high that the company may launch this product in it's launch event in China in September this year. However, Xiaomi surprised everyone by launching Mi Mix Alpha 5G in the launch.

The Chinese smartphone brand, Xiaomi, has reportedly filed it’s patent application for an in-display camera module for it’s unknown smartphone. The company has showcased a new invention where the camera is enclosed under the display. We have seen how the smartphone makers have removed the physical fingerprint cutouts and invented the in-display fingerprint scanner in the smartphone. The similar way, in-display or under-display camera module in the smartphone will become a new trend in the near future.

The picture shared in the patent application, shows how the display structure encloses a display or a light adjustment component positioned on the light emitting side of the display. It also shows the first and second region to be controlled independently. Though, the display shows the presence of multiple controllable pixels on the display. In short, if the first region of the light adjustment component is made in the light emitting state, the pixels corresponding to that region are disabled. This will allow the light emitted by the first region of the light adjustment component to pass through the display screen.

As per speculations around this new concept, the company may induct this technology in the Mi Mix 4. The smartphone, though, have been refused by one of Xiaomi’s executives. The speculations were high that the company may launch this product in it’s launch event in China in September this year. However, Xiaomi surprised everyone by launching Mi Mix Alpha 5G in the launch. A Xiaomi Brand Manager was recently quoted as confirming that no Mi Mix phone except Mi Mix Alpha is in works. This, though, has subsumed the rumours of Mi Mix 4 in works, however, it is still hard to believe.

As we always say whenever a patent is filed, that it will be amateur of us to rely on the patent filed as many of the patents filed in the past have not come in it’s final form. So, this news has to be taken with a pinch of salt and keep our eyes and ears open for more news to surface. Till then, let’s see if Xiaomi officially reveals anything about this technology or Mi Mix 4.
