In an unprecedented occurrence this year, the mayor of Mumbai will be elected without any opposition from any rivals. The incumbent Shiv Sena will coronate it’s party mayor in the form of Kishori Pednekar, Sena loyalist and corporator from Lower Parel. The announcement of the new mayor will take place on November 22, where Pednekar will chair the highest post of the nation’s richest civic body. It is speculated that the ongoing efforts of government formation in Maharashtra by Sena along with United Progressive Alliance (UPA) allies Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) be the reason for Congress’ back out from Mayor’s race. It’s ally NCP also decided to follow Congress’ footpath and not to challenge Sena’s contender for the Mayor’s position. Congress blamed it’s less corporators in the city, while NCP cited it’s strong alliance with Congress as the reason for not contending against Sena.
