The South Korean tech giant, Samsung, has reportedly received the patent grant for the dual display bearing smartphone. The name or the moniker it will bear, is yet not known. However, it’s an interesting news as this will provide an option against the Microsoft’s Surface Duo or the Surface Neo. Surface Duo and the Surface Neo are scheduled for a launch next year and are considered, as of now, the only dual display smartphones launching next year.
With the grant of patent to Samsung, Microsoft’s Surface Duo and Surface Neo would not remain the only option among the smartphone enthusiasts. Though, we do not know the specifications and features of the proposed Samsung’s dual display smartphone. The only news is that Samsung had filed the patent for a dual display smartphone in 2013 in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The South Korean giant was then granted the patent for this dual display smartphone from USPTO late last month.
As of now, Samsung already has Samsung Galaxy Fold which features a horizontally foldable display. The Galaxy Fold had received myriad eye balls but was disliked for the poor quality and performance by the tech reviewers. The Samsung decided to improve the quality and performance, which it did and decided to bring the improvised version in the market. With this patent grant, Samsung will definitely keep in mind the learning it has got from reviewers for the dual display Galaxy Fold.
The patent that Samsung had proposed in 2013, has the technologies of that era. However, the final product may differ drastically with regards to it’s internals as well as the cosmetics.
