The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi, is said to be working on a foldable smartphone concept, which it plans launching soon. The company has filed a patent for it’s first foldable smartphone, the name of which is still unknown. The concept shows the presence of a symmetrical dual-hinge design to the tablet like smartphone. Interestingly, the smartphone shows the placement of a triple lens camera module at the rear. The vertically aligned triple lens camera setup, though, doesn’t reveal the megapixel count and the other insights.
Currently, Samsung & Huawei are leading in the race to launch their foldable smartphone in the form of Galaxy Fold & Huawei Mate X respectively. Xiaomi, though, has got successful in filing their patent in the European Union Intellectual Property office (EUIPO) but how far it will succeed in launching the handset is still a mystery.
The schematic diagram of the Xiaomi’s foldable smartphone shows no details about the front camera, hence we still wonder if it plans bringing any revolutionary feature for the selfie lovers. The company is known for offering maximum features at a budget-friendly price, thus, the expectations are high from it’s fans.
The other insights like the processor, display, battery and connectivity are still unknown to many. Though, we also know that filing a patent doesn’t, necessarily, mean the device will be launched by the brand. Hence, we choose to wait for more details to unfold and things to unravel officially to believe them.
Notably, the design surfacing in the patent looks similar to that of the design shared by Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin in a video recently. Another video teaser shared by Xiaomi showed the similar design, so it may be true that Xiaomi has kept this design as it’s primary design to carve the final design.
It will also be interesting to watch for the price of this device as Xiaomi is known for it’s price war. The lovers of foldable smartphones may want to appeal to Xiaomi to keep the price as low as possible so that majority of them could own a foldable smartphone in future.
