How Bollywood reacted to Revocation of Article 370

The Bollywood 'Queen', Kangana Ranaut, also expressed her delight in a statement, stating, “Scrapping of article 370 was long due, it is a historic step in the direction of terrorism free nation, I have been emphasising on this for the longest time, and I knew if anyone could achieve this impossible feat that is Mr Modi, he is not only a visionary he has the required courage and strength of character to make unthinkable a reality. I congratulate entire Bharat including JnK on this historic day, we are together looking at a very bright future.”

“Article 370 was a cancer that was harming J&K for last several decades. I am glad, we have finally found a cure & we now can march towards development & peace in J&K.” Anupam Kher said in his video which he shared on his Instagram account from New York, United States of America. Anupam Kher’s fans were impatiently waiting for his reply to the revocation of Article 370 and Article 35-A by the Union Home Minister of India, Amit Shah on the direction of PM Narendra Modi led central government.

On Monday, August 5, 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) created a history after revocation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, making it a part of India. Amit Shah proposed to abolish Article 370 in the Parliament and the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with majority of votes. After the approval of the bill in the Rajya Sabha, from netizen to our Bollywood celebs, everyone came out to react and to share their views on the revocation of Article 370.

Amongst them is a Kashmiri boy, a Kashmiri Pandit, Anupam Kher, who also took on social media to share his excitement with this decision. He wrote, “I HAVE WOKEN UP TODAY IN NEW YORK TO THE BEST NEWS OF MY LIFE ABOUT KASHMIR. AND THAT TOO ON THE DAY MY AUTOBIOGRAPHY #LessonsLifeTaughtMeUnknowingly GOT RELEASED! Other celebs also took to Twitter and other social media handles to express their gratitude towards PM Modi and Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister.

This list included Isha Koppikar, Chetan Bhagat, Paresh Rawal, Madhu Bhandarkar, Vikrant Massey, Dia Mirza, Raveena Tandon, and Yo Yo Honey Singh. BJP got a lot of support from celebs over the revocation of Article 370 but some celebs also stood against the BJP government’s decision. “What the hell is happening ??? May Allah keep everyone safe! In Kashmir.” Gauahar Khan wrote over her micro-blogging site. She also took to twitter to write a series of tweets on the Kashmir issue.

‘Dangal’ fame Zaira Wasim, a Kashmiri resident wrote, “This too shall pass! #Kashmir.”

Article 370 of the Indian constitution which earlier granted special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. During the practice of Article 370, this is how Kashmir was: 1. Special powers were exercised by J&K, 2. Dual citizenship, 3. Separate flag for J&K, 4. Article 360 (Financial Emergency) not applicable, 5. No reservation for minorities, 6. Indian citizens from other states couldn’t buy property or land in J&K, 7. RTI not applicable.

On the other hand, the abolishing of Article 370 exercise these power: 1. No special power by others in J&K, 2. Single citizenship, 3. Tricolour to be the only flag, 4. Article 360 (Financial Emergency) applicable, 5. Minorities to be eligible for reservations, 6. People from other states can now purchase land or property in J&K, 7. RTI will be applicable.
