The Chinese smartphone subsidiary brand, Vivo, of the parent company BBK Electronics has launched it’s new smartphone, Vivo Z5, in China. The smartphone has the highlight features like large Super AMOLED display with water-drop notch, triple lens camera at the back, high resolution selfie camera, Snapdragon 712 chipset and a 4,500mAh battery with flash charging support. The smartphone is set at the price point of CNY 1,598 (approx. INR 16,000) for the variant with 6GB RAM + 64GB internal memory.

The other variant with 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage capacity is set at CNY 1,898 (approx. INR 19,000). Another variant with 6GB RAM + 256GB inbuilt memory is set at the price point of CNY 1,998 (approx. INR 20,000). The top line variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage is priced CNY 2,298 (approx. INR 23,000). The color variants include Aurora Illusion, Bamboo Forest Night and Holographic Illusion.
The phones have gone on sale in China, however, the top line variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB internal memory is said to go on sale from August 6. Let’s look at the specifications and features of the handset below

The Vivo Z5 sports a 6.38-inch Full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with screen resolution of 1080x2340pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone bears water-drop notch design to give a full view display experience. On optics front, the handset sports a vertically aligned triple lens camera module at the rear with the placement of an LED flash under the camera department.
The triple lens camera module at the rear includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture, 8-megapixel wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The camera department features Super Night View 2.0+, AI powered beauty mode and other such picture enhancement characteristics. For the selfies, the Vivo Z5 sports a 32-megapixel single lens sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

The smartphone runs on FunTouch OS 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie and is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 712 SoC clocked at up to 2.3GHz, coupled with 6GB/8GB RAM and Adreno 616 GPU. The internal memory of the smartphone is limited to 64GB/128GB using a MicroSD card. The handset doesn’t offer memory extension which is it’s major flaw. As far as the battery is concerned, the smartphone offers 4,500mAh battery which is compatible with 22.5W Flash Charging (fast charging) and also supports reverse charging.
In terms of the connectivity, the device offers dual 4G VoLTE supported SIM slots, dual band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0 LE, GPS/A-GPS, MicroUSB port with OTG support and 3.5mm Audio Jack. The sensors onboard include ambient light sensor, accelerometer, proximity, gyroscope and magnetometer. The smartphone weighs 187g while the phone’s dimensions measure 159.53×75.23×8.13mm.
