A special court of lawmakers located in Delhi awarded Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly), Som Dutt six months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. two lakh for being violent and assaulting a man during the Delhi Assembly Election campaign of 2015.
The incident of violence by AAP MLA Som dutt, reportedly, took place on January 10, 2015 at 08:00 pm when the MLA was accused of assaulting the complainant, Pandit Sanjiv Rana, at his residence. Rana was, allegedly, physically assaulted and beaten up by Dutt.
Before taking the laws in his hands, Dutt, as per reports, continuously rang Rana’s door bell which Rana opposed and refused to open. This refusal and objection, allegedly, led to his thrashing at his own residence at Gulabi Bagh, Delhi. As per reports, the crime was contrived by Som Dutt and his 50-60 supporters which injured Rana badly.
“There is no doubt that on January 10, 2015 at around 8 pm, Som Dutt, along with his 50 supporters, went to flat No. 13 where the complainant was present. The complainant was beaten and assaulted by the accused and his associates due to which he suffered grievous injury,” the court observed while proving Som Dutt guilty of the crime.
Following the violent behaviour with the complainant, the complainant had filed a complaint against the AAP MLA Som Dutt. After hearing the matter, the court, therefore awarded six months jail to Dutt on Thursday. The punishment also included Rs. Two lakh penalty imposed by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Samar Vishal. The AAP MLA, Som Dutt, was also asked to pay Rs. 1 lakh out of the 2 lakh fine to the Victim Pandit Sanjiv Rana.
Som Dutt was found guilty by the Delhi court under Sections 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 147 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The judgement has come at the time when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA, Akash Vijayvarghiya, who is also the son of Kailash Vijayvarghiya, National General Secretary of BJP, has thrashed a civic official of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) with a bat. The lawmaker is currently on bail, granted on June 30. The judgement by Delhi court in the AAP MLA’s case makes everyone curious to see the action which will be taken against the BJP lawmaker for causing hurt to a public servant discharging his duty.
