The parents broke down while receiving the compensation and urged to fulfil their wish “if it’s possible”. “It is my wish that the road..or the square where my son lost his life be named after him in his memory if it is possible,” urged Ankit’s father to Manish Sisodia, quoted news agency ANI.

The Dy. CM acted immediately on his attempt to fulfil Yashpal’s wish and directed the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Girish Soni, of acting on the same. He asked Soni to send a representation in this regard to his office and that his government will make all the necessary efforts to make Yashpal’s wish come true. “Within the next 10 days, the government will call a meeting of the relevant road naming authority and carry out your wish,” assured Sisodia to Yashpal, quoted ANI.

The Dy. CM was accompanied by the Madipur MLA, Girish Soni, as well as MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj representing the Greater Kailash constituency. Yashpal Saxena lodged his satisfaction over Delhi government’s promise fulfilment and the help his family received from Girish Soni after the death of his son. Yashpal informed Sisodia of the continuous help he received from MLA Girish Soni during the treatment in a government hospital.

To recall, Ankit Saxena (23) was contrived to death by parents and relatives of his Muslim girlfriend, Shehzadi (19) in February 2018. Ankit was assaulted and his throat was slit in public by parents, relatives and a juvenile brother of Shehzadi. The case had brought the two religious communities face-to-face and had the high potential of resulting into a communal violence. However, Yashpal came forward to urge to people of both the communities to restrain from communal disharmony.

In an exemplary attempt, Yashpal had organized an Iftar party for 200 Muslim people in June 2018, just 4 months after his son’s murder. “Yes, those who killed my son were Muslim..but every Muslim can’t be branded for this. Don’t use me to spread communal tension, don’t drag me into it.. I appeal to everyone not to link this to religion and vitiate the atmosphere,” Yashpal was quoted as saying after the communal tension was sparkling after his son’s murder.

Emphasizing on Yashpal’s such an attempt of maintaining peace and harmony, Sisodia, lauded Yashpal and extended his support to the family. “I am amazed by the grace with which you have carried yourself despite going through such a tragic time. Your maturity and the sensitivity with which you responded to such a devastating incident has left a mark on all of us. We thank you for being the voice of reason.” Sisodia told Yashpal, quoted ANI.
