The whole world witnessed the historic win of Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that swept 353 seats out of 543 of Lok Sabha. It’s now time for the BJP to look back at it’s manifesto to fulfill the promises made by it during the Lok Sabha poll 2019. Setting up of water ministry was one of the promises made by the BJP.

As “GREAT POWERS COMES WITH GREAT RESPONSIBILITY”, this achievement has also brought huge responsibilities for BJP and now the party has to work even harder to maintain this position. The first responsibility of the party is to implement promises made through it’s manifesto.
The main highlight of the BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ that lured public attention is Hydro Power. India which is home to 16% of world’s population and constitute 4% of the world’s water resources. Precipitation in the form of rain and snowfall provide over 4,000 trillion liters of freshwater but still a section of our society have to walk miles or stand in queue for hours just to get a few buckets of water.

BJP in it’s manifesto has promised that it will form a new Ministry of Water. This ministry will help approach the issue of water management holistically and ensure co-ordination. River water from various part of the country will be linked to solve irrigation and water scarcity problems and this work will be done by the officials of Water Ministry.
The government is also going to launch a ‘Jal Jivan Mission’ under which it is going to introduce special programme ‘Nal se Jal’ to ensure piped water for every household by 2024. The NDA government has already provided 3.6 million water connection in 2018.

Over five years to 2017, water borne diseases like Cholera, Diarrhoea, Typhoid and viral Hepatitis have caused 10,738 deaths in the country. Among which diarrhoea remained the leading killer causing 60% of all deaths. If the NDA government fulfil it’s promises then this death toll can be minimized to a very large extent. Additionally, farmers’ and villagers’ problems pertaining to scarcity of water can be seen resolving permanently if BJP brings in effect the promises of it’s manifesto.
