‘Laden Killer’ Apache Guardian Attack Helicopter joins IAF, Things to Know about it

IAF signed a multi billion dollar contract with US government and US aerospace major Boeing Ltd in September 2015 for 22 Apache helicopter and the first batch of these choppers are scheduled to be shipped to India by July this year.

Apache Guardian attack helicopter which is considered as the world’s most modern and deadliest helicopter, joined the chopper fleet of Indian air force on Friday. The chopper was received by Air Marshall AS Butola on the behalf of IAF in a ceremony at Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, US.

IAF signed a multi billion dollar contract with US government and US aerospace major Boeing Ltd in September 2015 for 22 Apache helicopter and the first batch of these choppers are scheduled to be shipped to India by July this year.

“Selected aircrew and ground crew have undergone training at the training facilities at US Army base Fort Rucker, Alabama. These personnel will lead the operationalisation of the Apache fleet in the IAF,” the IAF said in a statement.

AH-64E(I) helicopters have been customized to suit IAF’s future requirements and will bring out significant revolution in the chopper’s fleet. In geographical areas of mountainous terrain, this helicopter will prove to be a game changer for India. Apache is capable of carrying out the attack successfully in enemy’s areas, even in the face of possible threat from the ground. That is, in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, India has got the capability of destroying terror hideouts.

Apache is designed in such a way that it is able to penetrate the enemy’s fortifications and enter the border and attack them. The fact that Apache Guardian Attack Helicopter can transmit and receive the pictures of the war field through the weapon systems using data networking, it is called a lethal acquisition by the IAF. Defence analysts believe that Apache will be helpful during war.
