A First Information Report (FIR) was also registered against the MP for his uncontrolled tongue against his woman counter part. The Congress party also reacted to the shameful act by Khan and termed the remark as representation of "ugly and cheap standards" by the SP leader. "Unequivocally condemn the statement of Azam Khan against Jaya Prada. Politics has no place for those who cannot maintain a decent discourse while criticising an opponent," tweeted Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur assembly constituency, Azam Khan, is trending in news these days for what he is best known for. Stoking a controversy this time again, the 70 year old politician, this time too, chose to attack his opponent, Jaya Prada, in the alleged derogatory manner. The politician was addressing a public gathering at Rampur on Saturday, when he forgot to keep his tongue in control. The 9 times MLA from Uttar Pradesh publicly made a distasteful comment on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Rampur, Jaya Prada, which has not just received critics from BJP but also from Congress party.

“I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you seventeen years to identify her real face, but I found out in seventeen days that she wears Khaki underpants,” Khan was quoted as saying by media reports. The politician didn’t take the name in his statement, however, with the language as well as his words used in his remark pointed, reportedly, at Jaya Prada. Samajwadi Party chief and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, was also present on the stage along with the other party leaders, when Khan purportedly passed his remark on his ‘once upon a time’ friend and now foe, Jaya Prada.

As expected, Jaya Prada reacted emotionally and sought a strict action against the Rampur MLA. “Should I die? Then you (Azam Khan) will be satisfied?” asked emotional Jaya Prada while talking to a section of media. “You (Azam Khan) think that I’ll get scared and leave Rampur. But I’ll not leave,” added determined Jaya Prada while demanding a ban on Khan due to his derogatory remarks on women. “He shouldn’t be allowed to contest elections. Because If this man wins, what will happen to democracy? There’ll be no place for women in society. Where will we go?” appealed 57-year old newly inducted BJP leader, Jaya Prada.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of the matter and sent him a notice on the matter. “He’s always talking dirty about women, and during this election, this is the second remark he made against women politicians. NCW has taken suo-motu cognisance, we’re sending him a notice,” said NCW chairperson, Rekha Sharma. She also revealed the action plan to send a letter requesting Election Commission to take strict action against the 70-year old MLA from Rampur.

A First Information Report (FIR) was also registered against the MP for his uncontrolled tongue against his woman counter part. The Congress party also reacted to the shameful act by Khan and termed the remark as representation of “ugly and cheap standards” by the SP leader. “Unequivocally condemn the statement of Azam Khan against Jaya Prada. The BJP leader as well as Union External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, also took a jibe at Samajwadi Party patriarch and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav. “मुलायम भाई – आप पितामह हैं समाजवादी पार्टी के. आपके सामने रामपुर में द्रौपदी का चीर हरण हो रहा हैं. आप भीष्म की तरह मौन साधने की गलती मत करिये. @yadavakhilesh Smt.Jaya Bhaduri, Mrs.Dimple Yadav.https://t.co/FNO5fM4Hkc (Brother Mulayam, you are the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party. The Election Commission also took cognisance of the misconduct from the senior Samajwadi Party MLA and came heavily on him on Monday. In it’s action, EC banned Azam Khan for 72 hours from campaigning for any election effective from 10am, April 16, 2019.
