YS Vivekananda Reddy, younger brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and uncle of YSR (Yuvajana Sramika Rythu) Congress party president, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, was found dead at his residence in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. His death has sparked a political fracas between Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party.
The 68 year old YS Vivekananda Reddy is survived by his wife Y S Sowbhagya and a daughter Y S Sunitha.
The former minister was alone at his residence in Pulivendula on Thursday night. M V Krishna Reddy, personal assistant of Vivekananda, described the scenario when he reached his residence in the morning. “There was no response when I went to his house this morning. I called his wife in Hyderabad over phone and she asked me not to disturb him. Later, the cook and other household staff reached the house but they too did not get any response,” he told the Police.

“I then went in through a side door and found Vivekananda’s body in the bathroom, with blood clots in the bedroom and the bathroom. There were several injuries on his body,” he added.
He lodged a complaint with police, based on which the case was registered under section 174 Cr P C (unnatural death).
After post mortem in local government hospital, the case was then registered under section 302 IPC (Murder).
YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has blamed Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for the death of his uncle. He has demanded CBI probe into the incident. The YSR Congress party chief refused to trust the state police as they work, allegedly, under the influence of N. Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP government in the state. He said that an independent agency should investigate the murder case.
“Every time a murder happens in my family, it was during Naidu’s regime. When my grandfather Y S Raja Reddy was murdered, TDP was in power. When there was an attempt on my life at Vizag airport, TDP was in power and when this murder happened, TDP is again in power,” Jagan alleged.
Targeting Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chandrababu said that before police rushed at the place of crime, the blood marks were washed off by the family members. They also tried to convince the police by projecting it as a natural death, while the injury marks on Vivekananda’s body clearly indicated that it was a murder.
AP CM C.Naidu on YSR leader,YS Vivekananda Reddy's death: Clearing off evidences is definitely a crime. Now, they (YSRCP) are demanding a CBI probe. If the case is given to CBI, Centre will save them. If state police investigates, criminals will be caught. pic.twitter.com/IDJjw3wLcm

“When the body was shifted to hospital and autopsy was done, they started saying it was a murder,” Chandrababu said. “If the murder has taken place in your house and all these attempts were made to clean the scene of crime, how can you blame us,” Chandrababu asked Jagan. Naidu has also directed the police to inspect the incident carefully and catch the culprit as soon as possible.
Vivekananda was elected as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in 1989 and 1994 from his hometown Pulivendula in Kadapa district. Vivekananda won the Lok Sabha election of 1999 and 2004 from the Kadapa constituency. He also won the state Legislative Council election in 2009. He had served as the agriculture minister under N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the then united Andhra Pradesh. He had a difference in opinions with his nephew, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, after the latter quit the Congress and established the YSR Congress, and chose to stay back in the parent party.
Vivekananda lost the 2011 by-election at Pulivendula constituency conducted after YS Rajasekhara Reddy died in a Helicopter crash in 2009. Vivekananda lost the election battle to his sister-in-law, YS Vijayalakshmi, the wife of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The later stage saw the family differences settling down and Vivekananda joining his nephew, Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress party.
