The Japanese auto giant, Yamaha, launched it’s country’s “dark side” in India on Friday. The new bike, Yamaha MT15, which adds up to the company’s MT clan, has much catchy specs and features to make any head turn for it. The Yamaha MT15 gets it’s monstrous design from the Yamaha MT-09 which comes with 847cc engine at INR 10.55 Lac (ex-showroom) and the powerful mechanical setup inspired from the YZF-R15 V3.0 priced INR 1,39,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The new entrant in the MT clan of Yamaha was launched under the punchline, “the dark side of Japan”, and the company positioned the bike as “dark and aggressive” with it’s motard styled design. On top of it, dual LED DRLs help the MT15 get it’s identity of monstrous look, while just below the DRLs sit a single projector headlamp to finish the front view of the streetfighter. In terms of the price, it comes at INR 1,36,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), INR 3,000 economical than the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0. The target group for the bike is the super thrilling young millennials who wish to flaunt their adventurous side.

In terms of the specs, it comes with 155cc VVA-equipped 4-stroke, 4-valve, liquid cooled engine with single cylinder and fuel injection technology. In terms of the power, the engine makes 19.3hp at 10,000rpm while 14.7Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. The engine features 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch which is specialised in mitigating the effects of engine braking whenever the rider decelerate. The bike packs a fuel tank with 10 litres of fuel storage capacity which would take care of the long distance riding.

The company has brought some changes in the Indian version to bring down the overall cost of the bike, like the single-channel ABS system rather than the dual-channel ABS system used in the international model. Another thing is the box-section swingarm rather than aluminium unit as seen in the YZF-R15 V3.0. At the front as well, the Delta box sits on the telescopic fork, rather than the inverted forks seen in the international version of the Yamaha MT15, with monoshock suspension.
As for the dimensions, the seat is placed at 810mm above the ground level while the ground clearance of 155mm make the bike ergonomic while riding.
