In the letter to the state president, Sakshi Maharaj has made a veiled threatening to the party high command of election result not in favour of BJP if he is declined a ticket to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. “If party takes a different decision (related to my candidature) for Unnao constituency then this may hurt sentiments of crores of workers from the state and across the country. Its consequences may not be positive,” wrote Maharaj in his letter dated March 7.
The 63-year old Sadhu-turned-Politician from UP, has urged the BJP state president to allow him to contest from his constituency as he is the only OBC (Other Backward Class) candidate in the party. As per media reports, Sakshi Maharaj has claimed that BJP had no strong leadership in the Unnao district, however, after his coronation at the MP seat, party has managed to get 6 Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and 1 Member of Legislative Council (MLC). The BJP MP also gave a rationale of his 2014 win with 3,15,000 vote defeating Congress party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) contestants with a huge margin. He further went ahead to delineate the demography of his constituency with bifurcation of vote shares of Muslims, Brahmins, Backward Class, etc.
The UP BJP state president, Mahendra Nath Pandey, however, denied of reading the letter sent by his party MP from Unnao. “I have not seen the letter yet. I will take cognizance of the matter once I see it,” said Pandey, reported ANI.
