Amid the buzz of Samsung launching it’s first foldable smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Fold, on April 26, the Chinese rival, Huawei, has unveiled it’s first foldable smartphone, Huawei Mate X, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 at Barcelona. The mega tech show has commenced and the tech industry will be on fire till Thursday, February 28. To spice up the heat, Huawei has revealed some of the quintessential specifications and features of this mega launch of the Chinese brand. The Huawei Mate X is 5G ready with the company’s own modem Baolong 5000, which furthers company’s claim of delivering fastest 5G connectivity.

The attraction of the smartphone is the foldable display which makes it a smartphone-cum-tablet. It sports a 6.6-inch OLED FullView display without a notch in the smartphone mode with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 1148×2480 pixel resolution. At the back, the device offers 6.38-inch display with 892x2480pixels and 25:9 aspect ratio. When converted into a tablet, the device becomes an 8-inch OLED FullView display without a notch which looks in competition to the last week launched Samsung Galaxy Fold. The company claimed that the device is larger than that of iPhone XS Max as well as the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The company called the device “world’s thinnest foldable phone” with the thickness restrained to only 5.4mm in the ‘unfolded mode’ while 11mm when folded. If the company’s claim is to be believed, the device will be slimmer than the iPad Pro.

It sports a three lens camera in a 2-in-1 design for the front as well as the rear camera module, branded with Leica optics. The primary of the three lens camera bears a 40-megapixel wide-angle sensor while a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle secondary sensor and a 8-megapixel telephoto third sensor. The device runs EMUI 9.1.1 based on Android 9 Pie. The device is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal memory expandable to up to 256GB using a MicroSD card. It packs a 4,500mAh battery with 55W fast charging support. The company claims the battery bar to touch 85% mark in just 30 minute charging.

On the connectivity front, the smartphone-cum-tablet features dual 4G VoLTE SIM compatibility, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, Type C port and 3.5mm Audio Jack. The device will feature a fingerprint scanner at the bottom in the form of a button. When it comes to the price, it is expected to set at €2,299 (Approx. INR 2,600) and may hit the market by June 2019. The color variant, reportedly, includes only one, i.e. Interstellar Blue.
