Fire engulfs ESIC Kamgar Hospital in Mumbai, 5 feared Dead while Several Casualties Reported

The patients including kids were shifted to the nearby hospitals like Cooper Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital, Hiranandani Hospital, Holy Spirit Hospital and Trauma Care Hospital. The prima-facie seemed 'Level 3' fire turned into 'Level 4' in no time and the fire fighters found it difficult to take control on the fire. Around seven fire brigade team and five jumbo water tankers were rushed to the spot to douse off the massive fire.

A tragic incident was reported from Mumbai’s Marol locality of Andheri East on Monday where the government-run Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Kamgar hospital caught fire and took charge of the entire building gradually. Eye witnesses report that several people jumped off the upper floors of the five-storeyed building to save their lives which resulted into several injuries to them. Around five persons are reported to be dead including an infant in this mishap while more than 100 persons are reported to be injured.

The prima-facie seemed ‘Level 3’ fire turned into ‘Level 4’ in no time and the fire fighters found it difficult to take control on the fire. Around seven fire brigade team and five jumbo water tankers were rushed to the spot to douse off the massive fire. Around 49 persons are rescued and the operation is underway to take full control over the fire. The fire is reported to have started from the ground floor in the form of smoke behind the hospital building where some rubber ducts were stored and moved in no time to the upper floors. The cause of the fire is yet to be identified, a fire official said, reported TOI.

Two of the babies admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were also shifted to the nearby hospital, reported TOI. As per a report by the news agency ANI, a rescue van along with 16 ambulances are present at the spot to provide logistic support in moving the injured to the nearby hospitals. This is the second incident of fire in a matter of 7 days from Mumbai, where such a huge fire accident has been reported. A week back, a similar incident of fire engulfing a godown at Malwani area of Malad was reported where the decoration material was stored. No injury was, however, reported in this incident.
