The mob violence is again in news, this time around too, it’s allegedly over cow slaughtering suspicion, which led to the killing of a police inspector, Subodh Kumar Singh, who was shot dead in Bulandshahr of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. The news shocked the whole nation as the nation recalls the series of thrilling mob lynching incidents across the nation off-lately, over the suspicion of cow slaughtering. The incident has gathered attention as a police officer investigating Mohammed Akhlaq’s mob lynching case of 2015 has been killed in the incident and the accused were on a run before being held by the cops on Tuesday.
Four have been held in the case so far and the main accused, Yogesh Raj, is still away from the cops’ catch. “Four people have been arrested. I don’t know about the organizations (responsible for the violence), but the main accused in the violence is Yogesh Raj who has not been arrested till now,” said Anand Kumar, Additional Director General (Law & Order), while addressing a press conference over the issue, quoted ANI.
The family of the deceased cop, however, alleges that Subodh Kumar Singh was murdered in the pre-planned conspiracy, since he was investigating the mob lynching of Mohammed Akhlaq of 2015. “My brother was killed in a conspiracy by the police as he was probing a cow slaughter case (Akhlaq lynching case)” accused deceased’s sister, Saroj Singh Chauhan, quoted TOI. Notably, Akhlaq murder case investigation that the family is holding as the primary reason for Singh’s murder had held in 2015 in Dadri town of Uttar Pradesh over the suspicion of cow slaughtering. Saroj, also questioned the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, for his stand over cow protection as her brother has lost his life due to a cow. “What is this gai-gai (cow protection) our chief minister keeps uttering all the time? Why doesn’t he come onto the ground and serve the cause of cow protection? Today, I have lost my brother because of a cow!” Saroj was quoted as saying by ANI.
Saroj demanded her brother be declared a martyr as he died while delivering his service on-duty and that a memorial be built in the name of her brother. “What good is the 50,000 or 50 lakh rupees for us? We will return it,” said Saroj, quoted ANI. “He should be given a martyr’s status and a memorial should be constructed in his name in our native place,” she added, quoted TOI. She also recalled her brother’s honesty at work and two other incidents when Subodh Singh sustained bullet injuries. When asked the governor of the state, Ram Naik, he said that such incidents must not occur in no condition and hoped for truth to come out in 2 days. “I hope the truth will be out in 2 days as he (CM) said strict action will be taken against those who committed this crime,” assured Naik, quoted ANI.
The Opposition has come out heavy on Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh government and has criticized Yogi Adityanath for being on campaign as the state suffers. “Instead of taking care of his state, Yogi is going to Telangana and spewing venom,” BSP supremo and former UP Chief Minister, Mayawati, said, ANI reported. However, BJP leader, Subramanian Swamy, believed that the incident might have taken place at the behest of Congress party. “This incident occured because of some miscreants. We will find out whether they were Congressmen who are trying to give a bad name to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath government or something else,” said Swamy, quoted ANI. Another youth has also lost his life in this unfortunate mob violence.
