The former Cabinet Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party Leader, Azam Khan, spoke on various issues in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. While speaking to media on the Saint congregation in Delhi last month, Khan said that the participants of the congregation backed for a fight than the request for the decision by the apex court on Ram temple construction in Ayodhya. “When a sant sammelan was organized in Delhi, they proclaimed that they would no more request but are ready for a fight. On this we have requested that we are nowhere in this fight, on 6 December 1992 also we were not part of struggle and had called for obeying the law. But at that time no law could help, so what law will obstruct construction of temple now,” said Khan to media, quoted ANI. The former UP minister further commented that when power becomes the law, the law is reduced to nothing which leads to dictatorship, quoted ANI.

Khan was also very sarcastic in his comments when asked about the status of law and order in UP and the work of Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state. “The government is good. If someone has death in their fate, Yogi cannot do anything about it. If children are destined to die, Yogi ji can’t do anything about it as he had already told them to get better treatment. He is busy worshipping the God for as much as 23 hours and 45 minutes in a 24 hour day. He should not be blamed.” commented Khan ironically on Yogi Adityanath-led government, quoted ANI. The former minister answered several questions from media over the most controversial issue of construction of Ram temple. When asked if the construction must happen as many of Muslim communities are supporting the construction of Ram temple at the disputed land where Babri Masjid was brought down, Khan advocated to have faith on Supreme Court where the matter is subjudice. He also welcomed any solution if brought before the verdict by the apex court. However, “the atmosphere that was created during the Ram Janaki Rath Yatra must not be repeated because it harms the country,” quoted the former cabinet minister of Uttar Pradesh, reported ANI.

When asked about the party led by Shivpal Yadav, Khan affirmed that there is only one “Samajwadi Party” headed by the ex Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav. “There is only one Samajwadi Party and it has only one national president, Akhilesh Yadav. Whatever other party is made is entirely a different thing,” quoted ANI as said by Azam Khan on Thursday. Last month, the former UP cabinet minister had reportedly called himself an “item girl” of BJP who uses his name when the election is near. “I am the item girl of the BJP. They contest all the elections on my name. The last assembly election was fought on my name and the same is the case with the coming Lok Sabha elections,” Khan was quoted as saying by TOI on Oct 25.
