The much rumoured and leaked model of Samsung under the Galaxy family, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, is launched in New York before a much excited audience. The ‘Phablet’ encompasses some of the best features required in today’s era, however, the thickness and heaviness of the Phablet may turn OFF many to go ahead with it. The highlight features include IRIS scanner, Fingerprint scanner, Super AMOLED display, dual lens camera setup with wide angle as well as telephoto lens for the photography enthusiasts. The Phablet looks marginally alike the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, design wise.
The processor that the company has brought in the Note 9 is differentiated into 2 categories i.e. the Snapdragon 845 SoC for US market while the Exynos 9810 for the rest of the countries including India. One of the highlight features of the Phablet is the Bluetooth enabled stylus called S Pen. The S Pen is said to enclose music playback control, camera shutter and many other activities. Talking about the price, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is priced USD 999 (Approx. Rs. 68,700) as it’s starting price for the 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage. The other variant with 8GB RAM + 512GB inbuilt storage is priced USD 1,250 (Approx. 85,900). The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 sports 6.4-inch Quad-HD+ Super AMOLED infinity display with the screen resolution of 1440×2960 pixels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and pixel density of 516ppi. As far as the camera is concerned, the Note 9 sports a dual lens camera module at the back with dual pixel 12-megapixel primary sensor with wide angle lens and f/1.5-f/2.4 aperture. The wide angle lens is paired with a secondary telephoto lens with 12-megapixel autofocus sensor. The dual lens module comes with an LED flash for low light photography. The dual lens camera module is capable of taking upto 10x optimal zoom. At the front, the Galaxy Note 9 sports an 8-megapixel single lens autofocus sensor.
The Note 9 is powered by an Octa-Core Exynos 9810 wherein 4 cores are clocked at 2.7GHz while the other 4 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The US version of Galaxy Note 9 is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 SoC with 4 cores at 2.8GHz while the other 4 clocked at 1.7GHz. The RAM comes in 2 variants depending upon the storage variant chosen. The 6GB LPDDR4 RAM is combined with 128GB inbuilt storage while the 8GB LPDDR4 RAM is paired with 512GB inbuilt storage. The 128GB inbuilt storage variant is expandable to up to 512GB using a MicroSD card. It is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery which makes the Galaxy Note 9 heavier than it’s predecessor.
On the connectivity front, the Galaxy Note 9 features dual band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, WiFi Direct, Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, NFC, USB TYPE C 1.0 reversible port and 3.5mm Audio Jack. The sensors onboard are IRIS scan sensor, Fingerprint sensor at the back, Accelerometer, Proximity, Gyroscope, Ambient Light sensor, Barometer, Heart rate sensor and Digital Compass. The Galaxy Note 9 weighs 201g and measures 161.9×76.4×8.8mm.
