A video making rounds on internet left the viewers astonished when a man driving an SUV can be seen trying to bully the traffic cop and attempting to run over him. The man in the video has been identified as Laka Vengala Rao who is the owner of Laka Shopping Mall in Vijayawada and has been, reportedly, a BJP leader for more than a decade. In a recent position held by him, Andhra Pradesh President of the Akhila Bharatiya Yadav Mahasabha (ABYM) is one of them. The incident caught on camera of a bystander, reportedly, occured on Saturday around 8pm at one of the busiest roads of the city, MG Road. It can be seen in the video that Rao is trying to drive his SUV forward when a towing van comes to tow his vehicle. The SUV runs away from the spot leaving the public gathered at the place and the traffic cops bemused by the whole incident. The whole video incident can let anyone opine that Rao had no fear for law.
The police man can be seen trying to stop him from driving away but Rao pays least attention to it. When a source contacted Vijayawada City Traffic DCP, Ram Prasad, he narrated the whole incident. “The accused is the owner of Laka Shopping Mall in the city and he had parked his car outside the mall on the main road, which also doubles up as a highway. As Saturday was a busy day, our traffic police personnel asked him to move his vehicle to the parking facility in his own outlet.” quoted the source.
As per the report by the source, Rao refused to move the SUV from the spot which made the duty traffic cops call for the towing vehicle to tow the car. Rao, as per DCP Prasad, waited along with the other cops available there for the towing vehicle to arrive. After the towing van reached the spot and after realising that if he doesn’t act, his car will be towed and taken off from there, Rao got into his car and started driving the car forward. The traffic cops present there tried stopping him but Rao can be seen audaciously driving his car forward fearlessly. “Our traffic police officials could have gotten hurt or may have even been killed,” said Ram Prasad to the source.
The whole incident was reported by the local Traffic CI, the supervising officer at the spot, to the police incharge for Law and Order in the city and formally filed a complaint, source confirmed. The complaint was taken into consideration and a case was registered under IPC sections related to Rash driving and deterring a public servant from doing his duty. Subsequently, Rao was picked up on the same night and presented before the court and has been sent to judicial custody, DCP Prasad confirmed to the source.
Laka Vengala Rao had contested the Lok Sabha election held in 2009 on BJP ticket but was unlucky to win the election.
