A mother from Bhopal, determinedly, caught hold of her daughter’s alleged rapist through her bravery and intellect on July 26. The woman who is mother to a 14-year old class 9 student rolled up her sleeve to bring justice to her alleged rape victim daughter. As per BPS Bains, the Senior Inspector of Police from Shyamla Hills Police Station, the rape accused is 22-year old Sameer Khan, a neighbor of the rape victim. Sameer Khan aka Shahwar is a tailor by profession and had an eye on the rape victim.

Khan stalked the girl and offered lift to her while the girl was on her way to her school. The girl initially refused but agreed for the offered lift finally. This continued for the past one month when Khan thought of taking advantage of his lift to the girl. The girl, on July 22, as per Bains, was taken to a desolated place and was allegedly raped by Khan. He also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she reveals the incident to anyone. This continued and Khan kept giving lift to the girl. The girl gathered courage on July 25 and narrated the rape incident and the whole episode to her mother.

The girl still took lift from Khan the next day and Khan, reportedly, took the girl again to a desolated place in Shyamla Hills. Unknowing to the fact that her mother and her elder sister were following Khan’s bike, Khan started molesting the girl. According to Bains, the mother and elder sister of the rape victim reached the spot around 3pm on July 26 and caught hold of Khan. They also called the ‘Dial-100’ team who reached the spot without much delay. The rape accused was taken into police custody and was charged under IPC sections for Abduction, Molestation and Rape of the minor.

Such incidents are in rise in India and this calls for some strict law against the rapists and the molesters. A recent case of Unnao rape case, Kathua rape case are already waiting for justice and the demand for a strict and severe punishment to the rapists are on the rise. Recently, the plea to convert the death penalty of the 4 rape convicts, in the Nirbhaya gang rape case, into life imprisonment was rejected by President Ram Nath Kovind. This has confirmed the death penalty awarded by the Supreme Court to the rape convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case.
