Mumbai Rainfall: Traffic snarls, IMD predicts Heavy Rainfall for next 3 more days

Byculla, Sion, Goregaon, Bandra, Andheri and Wadala among the others have been affected badly with water logging issue. Railways also couldn't resist from getting delayed and canceling. While several local trains are running delayed by 10-15mins, long distance trains like Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express and others in the list below were either delayed, cancelled or reversed due to continuous rainfall.

From drizzling rainfall to a heavy one and the back and forth is the story of continuous rainfall in Mumbai from last 2 days. It’s been 2 days that the rainfall hasn’t taken a break, ascending the trouble for Mumbaiates. Several reports of water logging and traffic jam have made every office goer change the definition of punctuality.

While many decided to stay indoor, not taking the risk of getting trapped in the snarling traffic on the roads, few stepped out to their office. Several schools had decided to remain closed on Monday while the same has been seen on Tuesday too. Twitter has flooded with tweets of informing how miserable the lives have become in Mumbai, especially, on the roads due to heavy and continuous rainfall.

Byculla, Sion, Kings Cirle, Goregaon, Bandra, Andheri and Wadala among the others have been affected badly with water logging issue. Railways also couldn’t resist from getting delayed and canceling. While several local trains are running delayed by 10-15mins, long distance trains like Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express, 12215 Delhi Sarai Rohilla – Bandra Terminus of 9.07.2018 got terminated at Umargaam Road and will reverse from there, 59023 Bandra Terminus – Valsad of 10.07.2018 got cancelled and others in the list below were either delayed, cancelled or reversed due to continuous rainfall.

The food feeder of Mumbai, Dabbawalas, also suspended their services for today as the roads got heavily jammed and drowned in water. Mumbai Police and Railways social media team kept giving instructions and news updates from across the city to help commuters reach their destiny without getting trapped in any jam. In the meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in the districts of Greater Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar between 10th to 13th July,”, tweeted ANI.

Couple of bridges including Saket Bridge at Bhwandi developed cracks forcing the traffic to be diverted to avoid any mishappenings. The claims of the civic body of the city, BMC (Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Corporation), also fell flat after the city faced poor drainage system. However, this is not new for Mumbaiates as this issue is seen every year and BMC makes promises of improvement every year.
